Turning to experts to understand social media

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that social media MUST play a role in your marketing mix. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others all offer you ways to market like you’ve never marketed before. But I don’t kid myself either – this social networking world is ever-changing. We talk about nanosecond technology, and how the fast-paced dynamics impact our business. Well social networking could possibly be changing FASTER than nanosecond technology at its finest. So how do you keep up? How do you know where to dedicate those precious few minutes you do have each day for social media? I struggle with that idea daily. On one hand, I have connected with some very insightful people and some potential clients this way. On the other hand, there is no question that these sites can literally suck you in. Chris Brogan, an expert in community and social media, simply blogs only about this part of our marketing world. And he must be reaching people like you and me with his ideas. One recent blog post received 74 comments, and another one, 54. He has a “Best Of” page that offers some great ways to get started with social media. We must remember that we are all experts in our own right, in our own medium. However, we can only better our businesses and ourselves when we reach out to other experts who know more than us about a particular subject, and learn, learn, learn.
