Facebook matures with 200 millionth user

It’s official – Facebook reached the 200 million user mark the first week in April. To get a sense of size, Silicon Alley Insider said that “if Facebook were a country, it would be the fifth-largest in the world after China, India, the US and Indonesia.” Crazy. The more and more I use Facebook myself, the more I see its value. I have reconnected with some older friends who didn’t realize I was involved in marketing, which then lead to opening new doors to new leads. I have joined groups and become a fan of many, providing me with valuable insight (both personal and professional). Facebook also has just added a new feature called “text to fan,” a similar program to the one used on Twitter that allows users to become fans of businesses or brands (even when offline) through mobile communications. The feature mirrors the popular Twitter updates, which coincidentally was what sent Twitter skyrocketing in the first place. If you’re not on Facebook yet, take a few minutes to get started. Create a business profile, join a few groups and begin to build your contact list – the benefits are truly endless.
