Which social networking sites have you chosen to be on? The popular suspects, of course, include MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Digg, just to name a few. Perhaps you’re socializing with existing friends, colleagues and customers? But I have to reiterate again that the opportunity to network on these sites is endless. And a new relationship between Facebook and Yahoo! just confirms that point. It appears that the two have been working closely together in the search engine department. Now, if you search for someone in the Yahoo! search engine, if that person or business has a Facebook profile, it will pop up in the rankings of that search. And it doesn’t end there. The Facebook user’s profile will show up, complete with photo if there is one, and users can add a friend, poke, send a message, and view a person’s friends right from the search results page. So what happens if you have a customer who is searching for you but doesn’t find your profile on Yahoo!? It’s part of the privacy piece that Yahoo! and Facebook have integrated, which requires users to enable their profiles to be publicly searched. If you haven’t done this on your Facebook profile, then people won’t find you in this new search feature. Global listings, even through social networking sites, are quickly become integrated into mainstream search engine functions. Just another reason to start socializing!
