Contact Us … please!

Include all your contact information on every page of your website – and make it easy to find and use.

Nothing irritates me more than to visit a company’s website only to find there is no contact information. I immediately look for the “Contact Us” button on the nav bar, and if it’s not there, then I scroll down to the bottom of the home page, looking for the company information and phone number in the text at the bottom. If it’s not there, and there is a search function on the site, I’ll type in contact us. Not there? Three strikes and you’re out – I move on and find a vendor or other company that wants to talk with me and do business together! Slightly less irritating is when the contact information either has only an email, or you must fill out the “Contact Us” form on the page, because they have implemented this system for their convenience, not mine.

Technology is great. Email is fast and unobtrusive. But when I want to talk to someone personally, I want a phone number. Don’t be so bold (or dumb) to think that all of your customers, vendors, and new prospects just want to work in the technological world that we live in. There are many who still enjoy dialing and hearing a live, human voice on the other end. Questions are sometimes answered more quickly on the phone simply because the situation can be more clearly explained in a live conversation than a long email thread back and forth, trying to understand what the other person is “saying.”
